What do you do when you notice that in Africa, as in many other parts of the world, there is a great need for a better future for many young people? We decided to take action.
We are six friends with a number of shared passions: an interest in Africa, a strong motivation to guide and give opportunities to young people and the will to take action to make the world a better place, even if it is only a small part of it. The more we thought about it, the clearer it became that we wanted to do something with education. What better way to help a country and a community than by giving their young people a helping hand? Giving young people the chance to get a better education pays off and can create lasting change that benefits a whole community. Our eye fell on Ando, a small village 45 km north of Lomé, Togo's capital city in West Africa. Some of us have family ties to the country. One of us, Credo, was even born there. The local school has about 100 pupils who attend on a voluntary basis. The teaching staff is paid by the local community. Some pupils prefer to be kept at home by their parents to work in the fields. Sometimes, the means to provide proper education are lacking. We are talking about a watertight classroom, didactic material, school furniture, salaries for the teachers... So there are plenty of opportunities to help. The non-profit organisation Soucoul Togo started its preparations in early 2018 and was officially founded on 1 September 2018. |
Our Mission
The power of young people and the importance of education and training are central to SOUCOUL. We believe in the dynamism of young talent and therefore want to improve their chances of development. Creating opportunities for young people to develop and thereby equipping them for the challenges of the future is our mission. In this way, they can contribute to the further development of the local community.
To achieve this, we support and organise educational, logistic and health initiatives, taking into account the social context and relevance for the region as much as possible. We believe that local anchoring of the projects is important and even necessary. We hope to contribute to the creation of decent jobs, the stimulation of young entrepreneurship and sustainable growth in Togo.
